Paul Popplewell

Paul Popplewell (born 1977), is a British actor. He became a professional actor at 16, leaving college after gaining the lead role of Simon in the multi award winning BBC Television Drama Criminal, for which he won Best Actor at the Golden Chest Film Festival and was nominated for Best Actor at the Royal Television Society Awards alongside Pete Postlethwaite and Tom Wilkinson. At the age of 20 he was playing a leading role with the Royal Shakespeare Company in their production of Bad Weather. Since then he has continued to work in film, television, theatre and radio. In 2001, Paul played Happy Mondays bassist and founder member Paul Ryder in the Michael Winterbottom film 24 Hour Party People, having been a fan of the band since he was a kid. The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2002. He made an appearance in the music video for Oasis's 2005 single "Lyla". He played the character of Bod in feature film Tyrannosaur, written and directed by Paddy Considine, which was released in the U.K. on 7 October 2011 and in the U.S. on 18 November 2011. Tyrannosaur premièred at the Sundance Film Festival, where it picked up three awards. To date the film has won a BAFTA, three British Independent Film Awards, 20 international film festival awards and an International Press Academy Satellite Award. The Goob and '71 won awards at the British Independent Film Awards and Dinard Film Festival 2014, The Goob winning the Golden Hitchcock, Best Film Award at Dinard.
