Set in the mountains of North Carolina in the 1920s, "Serena" is a passionate love story about George Pemberton and his young wife Serena who is an outsider to his world of land and wood exploitation. Her strength and command surprise his male labourers as her ambitions for their company grow and she prepares to battle the state government to keep their land instead of selling to the National Parks. Tragedy strikes their home as after a miscarriage she can no longer have a child. She can no longer bear the site of his illegitimate son and hires one of her employees to murder his illegitimate son from before they met. Like Gone with the wind, this film mixes fated love, tragedy, drama and tension against a historic backdrop.
"Serena" for the third time brings together star and Academy award winner Jennifer Lawrence ("The Hunger Games", "American Hustle" and "Silver Linings Playbook") and Academy award nominee Bradley Cooper ("Hangover", "American Hustle" and "Silver Linings Playbook") The film is directed by Susanne Bier ("Things We Lost in the Fire").
