Eugenio Caballero

Eugenio Caballero (Italian pronunciation: [euˌxenjo kaβaˈʎeɾo]) is a Mexican production designer who won an Oscar for Best Achievement in Art Direction with Spanish film set decorator Pilar Revuelta in 2007 for the film Pan's Labyrinth (2006). Caballero was born Mexico City, Mexico in 1972 and studied art and cinema history at the University of Florence between 1989 and 1991. Upon his return to Mexico he worked at the National Institute of Beau Arts and the Latin-American University. Caballero has been a production designer and art director for advertising and music videos; amongst his better known collaborations is his work with Café Tacuva. Caballero is considered a student of the German production designer Brigitte Broch, a resident in Mexico for many years who won an Oscar for the art direction of Moulin Rouge!. His debut in film occurred in Romeo and Juliet by Baz Luhrmann in 1996. He has worked as an art director and production designer in Serious Assassin by Antonio Urrutia, About the Living by Jorge Aguilera, Zurdo by Carlos Salces, Santitos by Alexander Springall (1997) and Crónicas by Sebastián Cordero (2004). In 2006, before winning his Academy Award he worked as a production designer in the film Resident Evil: Extinction with Russell Mulcahy.
